Animating a walk cycle is no easy task, is it?

I still remember the stress and overwhelm of getting started… and I’m not even talking about making the walk cycle look good, which is already tough enough. I’m talking about, “where do I even start?” - Trust me the struggle is real.
Over the years, through trial and error, I created a workflow that’s simple to follow, easy to remember and most importantly —reproducible. This approach has made animating walks fun and creatively fulfilling. It combines two advanced techniques—Straight Ahead and Layered Animation—but I designed my process to make these methods simple and easy to grasp. Trust me, mastering these is a game-changer for any animator.

The true beauty of this workflow? Its versatility. It works with any character in nearly any software, without needing fancy plugins or extra tools. I’ll be showing you exactly how it works by creating a walk cycle from start to finish in real time, with no timelapse. Walk cycles are a cornerstone across animation industries, from games to TV to film. They’re so much more than just movement—they represent personality, style, and the magic of bringing characters to life.

Get ready to experience walk cycles like never before!
